Santana will
release their highly anticipated album Santana IV with the return of the band's original
lineup.
Carlos Santana (guitar, vocals), Gregg Rolie (keyboards, lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar, vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion) and Michael Shrieve (drums) have come back together for the first time in 45 years to record what is, essentially, their follow-up to Santana, Abraxas and Santana III. All three of the original albums went two-times platinum while Abraxas achieved three-times.
Santana IV features 16 all-new tracks written and produced by the band that burst with the same unparalleled energy and musicianship that made Santana a pioneering force in world music and a household name across the globe. Joining the core Santana IV band in the studio are current Santana members Karl Perazzo (percussion) and Benny Rietveld (bass), with the legendary vocalist Ronald Isley guesting on two cuts.
The origins for the reunion go back several years when Schon suggested that he and Carlos Santana record together. Santana liked the idea but went one better, proposing that they recruit Rolie, Shrieve and Carabello for what would be called Santana IV. After initial writing sessions and rehearsals took place in 2013, the group recorded throughout 2014 and 2015, amassing 16 spellbinding tracks that combined all their signature elements – Afro-Latin rhythms, soaring vocals, electrifying blues-psychedelic guitar solos, and irrepressibly jubilant percussion work – with widescreen hooks and melodies that will lodge themselves in the thicket of listeners' senses and stay there.
"It was magical," Santana says. "We didn't have to try to force the vibe – it was immense. From there, we then needed to come up with a balance of songs and jams that people would immediately identify as Santana."
The band's signature sound arrives forcefully on the album opener Yambu, a righteously gritty and soulful stomper teeming with swirling B3 organ hooks and walloping guitar crunch.
The first single, Anywhere You Want to Go, is destined to storm the pantheon of Santana classics. Written by Gregg Rolie, it's a sexy, body-shaking winner and an unmistakable tip of the hat to the inescapable cha-cha/Latin jazz charms of Oye Como Va.
Ronald Isley (The Isley Brothers) is a special guest on two tracks. His vocals highlight the feverishly impassioned Latin-rock workout Love Makes the World Go Round and the hard-edged and funky Freedom in Your Mind. Guitar fans expecting fireworks from Santana and Schon will cherish Santana IV from front to back. All Aboard is a no-holds-barred guitar jam of the highest order, as is the slinky, soulful metal cruncher Caminando, which explodes with tectonic axe force. And on the unabashedly British blues-tinged Shake It, the two go toe to toe on not one but two extended solo runs that will have lovers of unhinged fretboard work rejoicing.
"Carlos and I feel more connected than ever," says Schon. "We get super-aggressive when we play, but also melodic and poetic. We have an incredible dialog with each other on our guitars."
Santana's recurring themes of love and tolerance are common threads throughout Santana IV, most dramatically on the epic tone poem album closer Forgiveness, a languid and breathtakingly gorgeous atmospheric groover.
Music fans familiar with the "roaring lion" artwork on Santana's 1969 debut album will instantly greet Heather Griffin-Vine's graphic for Santana IV as a gloriously realized update of that iconic image. "I really think the music goes along with the cover, and vice versa," says Santana. "It all fits together beautifully."

Life In Song - a concert film celebrating the life and
career of Burt Bacharach, featuring performances by Joss Stone, Justin
Hayward, Alfie Boe, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Shaun
Escoffery, Rebecca Ferguson, Michael Kiwanuka, and Laura
Mvula. This recording, which will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital
Formats, was produced and recorded by BBC Events
Production.
Filmed at
London’s Royal Festival Hall in 2015, A Life In Song presents
on-stage conversations between Burt Bacharach and Michael Grade
traversing different aspects of his years in music, interspersed with
performances of many of his best loved songs by a diverse cast of artists. The
evening culminates in a medley of some of Bacharach’s most famous film
songs performed by the man himself and his band, and a performance of “That’s
What Friends Are For” featuring the entire evening’s
cast.
Originally
broadcast on BBC4 in November 2015, the DVD presents three additional bonus
tracks not seen in the original program: “Be Aware” – Josie James,
“Waiting For Charlie” – Donna Taylor and “God Give Me Strength” – John
Pagano.
A Life In Song is not only a fascinating tribute and

Mel Carter, who topped the
charts in 1965 with the ultimate version of “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” is
kicking off the New Year with the CD release of “Mel Carter Continues
...”
The 12 song CD, recorded in
Los Angeles,
is a collection of ballads, rhythm & blues, and big band songs. One of the
highlights from the new disc is a duet Carter sings with his long-time friend,
Lenny “Since I Fell For You”
Welch.
The tune they perform
together, “The Legends of Rock and Roll,” was written by Carter. The two
vocalists have sung the ditty during engagements in Vegas and have now made it
available as a recording.

Hi Kent,
I don't think I've asked this question here so maybe this will
help me.
The tribute band I'm in is going to do a tribute to The
Wrecking Crew in April.
Wondering if anyone knows of a good place to find a list of
songs the members of The Crew played on either the hits, or maybe pieces done
for movies and tv?
I'm sure we can come up with a list, but wondering if one
exists that would maybe show some things that we'd have overlooked.
If anyone would know I figure The Forgotten Hits folks
would.

know if there's any one source that truly lists them all ... but a good place to
start is the soundtrack cd released to coincide with the film. There were
literally THOUSANDS of sessions that featured at least two or three key members
of The Wrecking Crew ... it'd be virtually impossible to list them all ... but
you're right ... in addition to the hundreds of records they recorded that raced
up the charts, they also did a TON of soundtrack session work, both for movies
and television.
Here's a
starting point for you ... might as well stick with the music your audience will

Midway through the concert, Mike Love introduced Campbell to the audience. Then, the guys played Glen's rendition of Roger Miller's, "Dang Me". Since the concert was in December, Glen decided to change one of the lyric lines to, "Roses are red, violets are bluish. If it wasn't for Christmas, we'd all be Jewish!" Can you imagine the flack he'd have to take, if he sang that today? Of course, he didn't mean anything by it, but I still think it's funny.

The four members of ABBA, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Fältskog and Bjorn Ulvaeus, were together again on Wednesday for the opening of Bjorn’s new business venture.
Bjorn has opened a theater-restaurant in Stockholm based on and named after Mamma Mia.
Visitors to the venue get to role-play the Mamma Mia story, staff are dressed as Mamma Mia characters and the night also features a new adaptation of the story by Ulvaeus. Ulvaeus said earlier that he had invited the three other members of ABBA to the opening but did not know until the night if they would come. The four ABBA members then mixed with the 130 specials guests and occasional fans who managed to score an invitation.
The last time all four members of ABBA were photographed together was in London in 2008 for the premiere of the movie Mamma Mia. Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid (Frida) were together for the opening of the ABBA Museum in Stockholm in 2013 but Agnetha was out of the country
promoting her latest album.

The last time all four members of ABBA were photographed together was in London in 2008 for the premiere of the movie Mamma Mia. Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid (Frida) were together for the opening of the ABBA Museum in Stockholm in 2013 but Agnetha was out of the country
promoting her latest album.
